Dear Sirs,

As we hear so much about the ‘vandalism’ committed by ‘rogue builders’ and the damage they have then done to the reputation of more competent and honest builders, so I would like to highlight the professionalism and high quality work of one of your members, Martin Silcock of Tricklebank who has very recently completed the management of a successful project for me. It is people like Martin who through their openness, tenacity, passion, ‘client-focus’, attention to detail and hard work, are a shining example and a role model for how the industry should operate.

With previous builders I had got a long way into the major renovation and extension of my beautiful 17th century farm house in the Lake District when the financial crises hit. They were good technical builders in many ways and things progressed ok at first with demolishing and building work, but they were certainly not ‘sympathetic’ to the ancient building and they clearly did not have the competence to finish with quality and finesse. This first company became seriously delayed, spent all my funds and still left my house uninhabitable. Just before they stopped they were focusing energy on high cost non-priority digging work instead of completing my home. They then left the house insecure with no door and all the windows open. They also left the land in a shocking state with huge craters as if bombs had exploded everywhere.

I worked hard for two years to raise funding to start building again but then discovered it was impossible to find other builders willing to take over the project to completion. I looked at your site without much hope – but was lucky to find Martin Silcock and Tricklebank!

Martin was willing to spend time listening and discussing with me by phone and then drove hours to visit me on site. Right from the start, Martin was positive, open and full of ideas to create a quality authentic finish AND save me money. Even though he was hours away, he stepped up to the challenge to complete my home when no one else would. His passion, enthusiasm and attention to detail were infectious and he managed all the specialists with this great spirit. All the guys he employed were client-focused, polite and highly competent. This was important in re-building my trust and confidence as the previous crew had done so much shoddy work that had to be done over again. There were many unexpected and often difficult problems to solve but Martin and his team were creative and tenacious and really determined to succeed. I was not often home in UK but at every stage Martin proactively communicated; emailing me with photos to discuss decisions and progress. I always felt that he had my best interests in mind and he found many ways to save me money whilst maintaining high quality.

Inevitably with a large and complex renovation project there were many surprises and consequently costs increased. But I never once felt taken advantage of when this was easily possible. I highly commend Martin and the Tricklebank team for all their care and great work on finalising this project. I am delighted with how it has turned out and must say that it is far beyond my expectations. I thank Martin in particular for committing to it and me with such passion and energy.

In Martin, you have a member to be proud of.

Best wishes and sincere thanks,

Mark

Magnolia House Development

I heard about Tricklebank through a business acquaintance. After I had the first meeting with Martin I was impressed with his manner and approach to me, who was a little apprehensive about building a house to say the least. Martin reassured me and I signed up with Tricklebank.

From day one Martin kept me up to date and informed on each stage of the project. I found all of Martin’s team very helpful and polite, nothing was too much trouble. The site was always clean and tidy.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Tricklebank, Martin Silcock and his team. If I were ever to build a house again I would choose Tricklebank.

I would personally like to thank Martin and his team, you have all done me and my children proud. We have a fantastic home that we all love.

Thank you.

Jacksons Bridge Barn Development

“We wanted someone who could extend a barn conversion and reflect the character of the existing building in the extension. Tricklebank was the perfect choice, Martin and his team did an amazing job, the attention to detail was spot on and most importantly it came in on budget.

Everyone we had on site was hard working and did a great job.

We’d have no hesitation in recommending Tricklebank.”

Meols Wood Development

“Tricklebank built and helped with the bespoke design of our beautiful family home in Churchtown in 2003. A home to suit our specific requirements. A four bedroom rustic country house with separate wing to accommodate our two severely disabled children.

The house consisted of beautiful oak floors and sandstone flagging with French Oak beams and bespoke open log fireplace. In beautiful surroundings.

Martin Silcock worked with our Architect in the design and paying particular attention to special loaded ceilings for hoist systems and special needs bathroom.

We were so pleased we chose Tricklebank for our house build the finish product was exceptional and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for Martin Silcock.

Thank you again for our beautiful home.”

We had considered having a swimming pool built in our garden for a number of years but had always hesitated . On recommendation we contacted Tricklebank and had a look at what they had done before, after much discussion we went ahead and commissioned an infinity pool as our garden suited this design. The finished result is just what we wanted, Martin and his team really produced something special for us.

When we were considering the renovation work that needed to be done to our house in 2008 it did take us some time to consider who would be best to carry out these works. On recommendation we chose Martin and his team at Tricklebank. One of the main contributors to this decision was the fact that Tricklebank was a family business and had an excellent reputation for reliability and providing a very high standard of work, they were also members of the Federation of Master Builders.

We worked closely with the Tricklebank team in order to achieve the right result and even though other work became apparent during the planned renovation it was all dealt with quickly and efficiently, all the tradesmen that worked on our project were courteous, tidy and respectful at all times, they did a great job and we were delighted.

Coco Boutique

In 2008 as I launched the opening of a new designer clothing boutique in Wayfarers Arcade Southport, with a very short timescale, Tricklebank swooped in on the derelict unit which is on two floors. The unit needed rewiring, re plumbing, plastering, tiling the installation of air conditioning, changing rooms, lighting and decorating , they worked in tandem with our interior designers to a tight budget and the finished work went above all expectations, the attention to detail was faultless.

I would recommend Tricklebank to any business or individual wanting a project delivered efficiently.
